2025 - Call for Abstracts/Papers: Pathways to African Feminism & Development

2025-08-12

Theme

"Land Governance and Women’s Land Rights in Kenya: Advancing Gender Equality & Sustainable Development".

 Sub-Themes

  • Women, Legal and Policy Frameworks
  • Customary and Religious Practices
  • Intersectionality and Land Rights
  • Women’s Voices, Agency, and Collective Bargaining
  • Women and Land Governance Institutions
  • Land, Livelihoods, and Climate Change
  • Innovations and Good Practices in Land Governance

While the journal accepts papers based on secondary data, preference is given to those based on primary data and strong qualitative research.

 Justification

Despite Kenya’s progressive constitution and legal frameworks, significant gender disparities persist in access to, ownership of, and control over land. Women, who form the majority of Kenya’s agricultural workforce, own only 3% of titled land, continue to face cultural and legal barriers to inheritance, and remain underrepresented in land governance structures and institutions at all levels. This call aims to amplify research and practical solutions that tackle systemic inequalities, thereby advancing gender-responsive land governance.
