Abstract

In line with the United Nations vision of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) no. 11 to achieve sustainable cities and communities by 2030, the Federal Government of Nigeria has come up with policies to facilitate housing for all. However, it has significant disadvantages since the bulk of urban migrants come from low-income neighbourhoods where there aren't enough resources or financial outlays to buy excellent, cheap homes. Furthermore, the current housing delivery mechanisms for low-income communities are not only unsustainable but also wasteful. Consequently, like in other developing countries, Nigeria requires a more sustainable model of housing delivery for low-income communities. This study sets out to investigate the efficient and sustainable delivery processes of housing for low-income communities in Jos City, Nigeria. The empirical study looks at local approaches used in Jos City, Nigeria, to deliver housing to communities with low incomes.
