Journal of Pedagogy, Andragogy and Heutagogy in Academic Practice (JPAHAP) is an indexed (ISSN:2708-261X) interdisciplinary academic journal in thefield of Academic theory and practice covering issues of faculty-centered education (pedagogy), student-centered education (andragogy) and self-directed and transformative (heutagogy) education. The journal is issued by University of Nairobi’s Centre for Pedagogy and Andragogy (CEPA) which launched on 15th September, 2015 with mandate to train academic staff in Pedagogy which include provision of knowledge and skills in the areas of curriculum development, effective teaching in higher education, incorporation of mentorship in teaching and, assessment and evaluation of learning outcome.

This JPAHAP is one of CEPA’s initiatives aimed at strengthening its mandates of providing a research platform for scientific, theoretical, empirical discussions and publications on educational academic practice issues.

Aim

The aim of the Journal of Pedagogy, Andragogy and Heutagogy in Academic Practice (JPAHAP) is to provide an avenue to exchange evidence-based information and best practices from fields such as management, andragogy, anthropology, conflictology, curriculum development, developmental psychology, educational technology, effective teaching in higher education, heutagogy, mentorship, methodology, methodology of pedagogies, pedagogical psychology, pedagogy and pedagogical management, social pedagogy, organizational sciences and culture. The JPAHAPcontributes to the academic practice in higher education by sharing knowledge, skills and professional attributes in the field of pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy.

 The JPAHAP is open to lecturers, academic staff, researchers, teachers and managers who examine the methodology of pedagogies, effective technology and address the issues that arise from pedagogical educational practices. Researchers and authors are also encouraged to submit their theoretical concepts with practical applications or empirical testing.

 Scope

JPAHAP is a multi-disciplinary open access and peer reviewed journal publishing articles in the field of pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy in academic practice.

 The JPAHAP is published online in two languages: English and Kiswahili. The articles in Kiswahili should be accompanied by an abstract in English. JPAHAP publishes in Quarterly basis with one volume per four issues.

SUBMISSION

Submission by authors implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a conference or symposium.  The JPAHAP receives and publishes paper manuscripts (4,000 and 20,000 words), research and conceptual articles(4,000 and 7,000 words), shorter papers, research notes (1, 500 – 2, 000words), book reviews, concept papers, theoretical essays, case studies of best practices in pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy.

Preparation of the Manuscript

Manuscripts should be presented in the following order:

  5. Results and Discussion

 Other articles that are not empirically based should be presented as follows:

 Manuscript Formatting Guidelines

 Title Page: Title must be precise, self-explanatory and brief (not more than 25 words). The Font Size of the title should be Times New Roman 14, bold and centered.

 Corresponding author details with their affiliation(s) (surname, other names, institution and Country) must be mentioned below the Title. The corresponding author should be starred in the authors list. Corresponding author should be provided with complete affiliation, contact number and e-mail address.

 Abstract: Each manuscript must contain an abstract of no more than 300 words for all articles. An abstract need to be concise, informative, self-explanatory and must be free from citations. It should be single spaced, Font 11, Times New Roman.

 Keywords: Keywords should be precisely picked from the manuscript and comprise of those most commonly used words in the article. The limit is 8 keywords.

 Introduction: This section should lay a strong background for the study to enable the readers to understand the purpose and need for the study. This section should contain citations of previously published research studies and literature relevant to the topic that are used in the article. The introduction should clearly highlight the empirical and theoretical literature review, research gaps, research focus, research questions and objectives.

 Methodology: This section should provide detailed procedures; techniques; and methods applied in the research e.g. study design, sample and sampling techniques, instruments and procedures, data analysis and other methodological details critical for replication.  This section may have multiple sub-sections as per the number of methods and methodologies used.

 Results:  This section should describe the results of the study. They should be in line with the objectives and analytical framework while providing a summary of the most remarkable findings.

 Discussion: This section aims at analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing the findings in the context of existing literature while suggesting future directions for research, new methods and explanations for deviations including support for previously published results from credible sources.

 Conclusions: This should clearly articulate the outcome of the synthesis of the findings while giving a sense of completeness and a final impression on the reader showing the importance of the research statement.

 Acknowledgements and Funding

The author should acknowledge people, grants, funds, etc. that contributed towards the success of the work. Authors should also declare whether or not they have competing interests.

 Figures and Tables: All figures and tables should include the relevant captions, titles, description or footnotes using the APA format.
