CALL FOR PAPERS, 2023

Haki Journal of Human Rights (Hakijhr) is an open access annual peer reviewed Journal dedicated to broadening the understanding and practice of human rights by fostering a critical re-examination of existing approaches to human rights from an Afrocentric perspective as well as to develop new perspectives on the universal theory and practice of human rights. The Editor invites analytically rigorous papers, comments on cases, legislation, policies and book reviews for the Vol. 2 2023. The submissions should revolve around themes related to the understanding of human rights in Africa.

B: Manuscript type

  2. The preferred lengths for submissions are as follows:
  1. Articles: 6000–8000 words including references, notes, tables and figures;
  2. Notes/Comments: 3000–4000 words;
  3. Book Reviews: 1500–2500 words;
  4. The articles should include an abstract that is citation free (250-300 words).
  5. Manuscript to contain no more than 50 references (except in exceptional circumstances).

 

C: Preparing your manuscript for submission:

  1. Manuscript should be submitted in Word, font 12, Times Roman, double spaced.
    1. Title and Author Information: following information should be included
    2. Paper title
    3. Author and all co-author(s) names and academic designations
    4. institutional affiliation
    5. E-mail addresses and contact details of author and all co-authors.
    6. Keywords: Add about four-five key words or phrases in alphabetical order, separated by comma.
  2. Introduction: This section should be succinct, with no subheading and no references.
  3. Use ‘s’ spellings instead of ‘z’ spellings. This means that words ending with ‘-ize’, ‘ization’, etc., will be spelt with ‘s’ (e.g., ‘recognise’, ‘organise’, ‘civilise’).
  4. Use British spellings in all cases rather than American spellings (hence, ‘programme’ not ‘program’, ‘labour’ not ‘labor’, and ‘centre’ and not ‘center’).
  5. Use single quotes Quotations of 45  words  or  more  should  be separated from  the  text  and  indented with  one line space  above  and below.
  6. Use ‘twentieth century’, ‘1980s’. Spell out numbers from one to nine, 10 and above to remain in figures. However, for exact measurements, use only figures (3 km, 9 per cent, not %).
  7. Use of italics should be minimised, but used consistently. Tables and figures to be indicated by numbers separately (see Table 1), not by placement (see Table below).
  8. References: Hakijhr adheres to two methods of citation.
  9. APA (American Psychological Association) citation Style
  10. OSCOLA (Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities) citation style for research papers related to Law & Legal Affairs.
  11. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the information in each reference is complete and accurate.

D: Editorial Policies

  1. Peer review
    1. Hakijhr is a peer-reviewed journal, which follows a double blinded review process.
    2. Under the process, author's scholarly work and research is subjected to the scrutiny of other experts - at two different levels in the same field to check its validity and evaluate its suitability for publication.
    3. Article would then on be accepted /not accepted or accepted after modification which the author is required to carry out subsequently.

  1. Hakijhr takes issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism or other breaches of best practice in publication very seriously. We seek to protect the rights of our authors and we shall endevour to investigate claims of plagiarism or misuse of published articles. Equally, we seek to protect the reputation of the journal against malpractice.
  2. Submitted articles may be checked with duplication-checking software.
  3. Where an article, for example, is found to have plagiarised other work or included third-party copyright material without permission or with insufficient acknowledgement, or where the authorship of the article is contested, we reserve the right to take action including, but not limited to:
  4. Publishing an erratum or corrigendum (correction); retracting the article;
  5. Taking up the matter with the head of department or dean of the author’s institution and/or relevant academic bodies or societies; or
  • Taking appropriate legal action.

 

E: Guidelines for Submission of Manuscripts:

  1. The Journal language is English.
  2. Last date of submission of full paper is 4th March 2023.
  3. Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that meet the aims and scope of HAKI Journal of Human Rights will be reviewed.
  4. As  part  of  the  submission  process you  will  be  required to  warrant  that  you are:
  1. Submitting your original work which you have the rights in the work;
  2. Submitting the work  for  first  publication in the  Journal and that it  is  not  being   considered  for  publication  elsewhere  and  has  not already been published elsewhere;
  3. You have obtained and can supply all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by you.

Note

  1. Manuscripts not conforming to these guidelines shall be returned.
  2. Manuscripts received after the stipulated deadline would not be considered for review/publication.
